Summer associate tragically killed during scavenger hunt
Last night, during the Firm's annual scavenger hunt event, summer associate Jason Shipley (UCLA School of Law '07) was run over by a sanitation truck and tragically killed while stealing a manhole cover from the center of South Grand Avenue in Los Angeles. The manhole cover was a new addition to the scavenger hunt list this year, which also included a light blue dress shirt, chopsticks from a nearby sushi bar, and a suicide note written by an associate of the Firm. Courtney Davis (Harvard '07), one of Shipley's teammates in the scavenger hunt, said, "Jason just wanted to win, especially when they told us the last place team would have to spend the whole weekend in the document room. We told him not to run out into traffic, but he wouldn't listen. And not only did he lose his life, but because we didn't finish with our entire team, we were disqualified and we'll be in the document room all weekend after all. So it's a tragedy not just for Jason but for our entire team. It's a shame." Partner Patrick L. Forrester expressed remorse on behalf of the Firm, but added, "at least it was only a UCLA student. We'll move on."
