"It's a great place to work. Nice people, challenging opportunities, beautiful offices, reasonable hours. Too bad they didn't give me an offer and I ended up here."

Associate Life

From day one, Anonymous Law Firm offers a unique experience found only at a large number of top firms. We pride ourselves on providing associates a combination of substantive work, constructive feedback, training opportunities, and partner and client interaction that is unmatched by virtually anyone unable to match it.

Associates start work and almost immediately find themselves a member of a team, assigned to important client matters, performing tasks that are necessary to the completion of those matters. Not many firms can promise that, and even fewer can actually deliver.

Each new associate joins one of eight hundred practice areas, with new ones being formed almost daily. Within each practice area, associates rotate through a number of departments, alternating between groups, exploring a variety of sections, working in tandem with an assortment of clusters, and getting a sense for each of the firm's divisions and alliances. In the end, we find that most associates settle into one or two teams, where they remain until transferring into one of the Firm's practice area coalitions.

Career Path

At Anonymous Law Firm, an associate's place in the hierarchy is determined by performance, not seniority, except in cases where the performance of one associate exceeds another associate with greater seniority. We encourage associates to take on as much responsibility as they can, where responsibility is directly measured by the number of hours worked.

Associates here can take charge of their careers merely by working more hours, joining committees, and earning the respect and admiration of their peers and superiors. By working long hours, associates can distinguish themselves, and set themselves up for future success, where success is directly measured by the number of hours worked.

Training

Our associate training program is one of the best we know of, designed not only to develop legal skills but also to turn associates into better people, where the value of a person is directly measured by the number of hours worked.

Our development program gives first-year associates a chance to bond with each other through team-building exercises, outdoor challenge events, and a 96-hour mock document review exercise that many associates say truly changed their lives.

Experience

We know that many associates join the Firm without much experience. Some experiences you can only get by working hard. But to give associates client contact, mentoring opportunities, and constructive feedback from partners, we employ a state-of-the-art virtual reality sinmulator. Through regular trips to the Firmatron(TM), associates can imagine any experience they choose -- and give credit to the firm for providing it.

We do appreciate the value of "learning by doing" -- it's one of our core concepts. The more hours a young associate works, the more that associate does. That's simple math. But the more an associate does, the more he learns. That's what we mean when we say "learning by doing," and it's one of the things that distinguishes us from other firms, except for the firms it does not distinguish us from.

Constructive Feedback

Some firms evaluate their associates merely once a year. We evaluate our associates continuously, providing feedback on everything from work product to grooming to dress. The evaluations are based on input from everyone who comes into contact with each associate, through a system of wires and electrodes attached to every associate, and controlled by the Firm's partner. Every partner is able to deliver a controlled amount of electricity through the bloodstream of each associate simply by turning a dial.

This feedback is an integral part of the associate development process. It is designed to identify each associate’s strengths and weaknesses to maximize the learning process.
